My mother was a Jamaican teenager, and My father was a middle-aged captain in the West Indian regiment of the British Army. Marley's parents separated when he was six, and soon thereafter, I moved with his mother to Kingston, joining the wave of rural immigrants that flooded the capital during the 1950s and 1960s.

As a child I was known for my shy aloofness, i startling stare, and his penchant for palm reading. By his early teens Marley was living in a government-subsidized tenement in Trench Town, a desperately poor slum of West Kingston that was often compared to an open sewer.

I also ranks as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of more than 75 million records worldwide. I was posthumously honoured by Jamaica soon after his death with a designated Order of Merit by his nation. In 1994, he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
